Players come and go, but none have left such a mark in a short space`of time like Maxi had. It is not only his intelligent movement and clinical finishing on the pitch but also his attitude and professionalism off it that make him such a respected player. Never once did he complain about his lack of playing time despite the fact that when he did play, he tended to perform. Instead, Maxi was always ready whenever called upon and can also always be relied upon to produce. He certainly has wore the LFC shirt with pride and represented LFC well. As fans, we cannot ask for more. Even when he decided to call time on his career at LFC, he left with such dignity and class - such is the man he is. Thank you for everything, Maxi. It is truly an honour to have you play for us and come what may, you’ll never walk alone. Also, you will always run down the wing for me.

"He likes London, Maxi - he likes the temperature here! He’s a really intelligent footballer, as is Craig Bellamy. The two of them really appreciate their profession, they know how to look after themselves. We know what we get from both the lads and you could see how good they are."
- Kenny Dalglish (on why he picked Maxi and Bellamy in the starting 11)
